Join the Freshkills Park Alliance and the Greenbelt Conservancy for an Adult Hike September 26th to celebrate Climate Week NYC! On this moderate 2-hour guided hike, we will learn about the impacts of climate change and how Freshkills Park will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and buffer against some of the worst climate change impacts to create a more climate resilient Staten Island and NYC.Plan Ahead: Wear sturdy shoes for walking. Please also bring water and sunblock and be prepared to spend 2 hours outside in the sun.
About Climate Week NYC: Climate Week NYC is the largest annual climate event of its kind, bringing together over 600 events and activities across the City of New York – in person, hybrid and online. Each year, business leaders, political change makers, local decision takers and civil society representatives of all ages and backgrounds, from all over the world, gather to drive the transition, speed up progress, and champion change that is already happening. Ages 18+
Location: We will meet across from the composting comfort stations (restrooms) in North Park Phase 1. Gates to North Park Phase 1 are located at 350 Wild Ave (parking lot entrance) and at Schmul Park (behind the baseball field). From here, we will walk together to North Mound. Accessibility: We will be walking approximately 1-mile on a gravel trail, which includes elevation and can be uneven at times. If you have any accessibility needs, please let us know in advance so we can best accommodate you.
Plan Ahead: Be “tick aware” and wear long pants, close-toed shoes, and insect repellant. Also wear a hat and bring water and a snack.
