Early Career Development Program (Post-Baccalaureate Training)

The NYGC Early Career Development (Post-Baccalaureate) program offers recent graduates outstanding scientific training and research experience across faculty and non-faculty laboratories, leveraging the NYGC's distinct expertise in genomics, computational biology, technology innovation, and clinical genetic testing. Beyond their scientific work, participants will gain access to diverse mentorship, programming, and enrichment opportunities, introducing them to various career paths in the public or private sector, as well as opportunities for graduate studies. Program participants will be offered a two-year full-time position at the NYGC, starting in summer 2025.

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

B.S./B.A. degree holders or current/rising seniors in a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) field from an accredited college or university (Degree must be awarded prior to the program start date in summer 2025)

Less than three years since graduation at the time of application submission. Individuals who wish to apply but cannot satisfy this requirement may provide a statement explaining their circumstances

• NYGC-wide events and networking opportunities, including New York Cancer Genomics Research Network Meetings, Center for Integrated Cellular Analysis Lecture Series, Monthly Scientific Working Group Evening Lectures, Lecture Series for NYGC Affiliate Members, Center for the Study of the Non-coding Cancer Genome Lectures, Weekly NYGC Lab Meetings, and NYGC Sequencing Informatics Workshop
• Personalized mentoring by NYGC faculty, staff, postdocs, and graduate students through regular 1:1 meetings focusing on the participant’s career/academic goals and addressing challenges.
• Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI)-related training opportunities with the NYGC’s HR and DEI Advisory Group, as well as through conferences such as the National Diversity in STEM Conference and the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minoritized Scientists
• Opportunities for participants to present their research at NYGC lab meetings and at the program's conclusion
• Guidance and support for graduate school applications
• Yearly salary and benefits of US $63,000, including health/dental/vision insurance, generous paid time off, a 401(k) plan with company match, wellness and family care benefits, and tuition reimbursement, among other benefits
