NYU High School Bioethics Project Internship

Interns will devote 4 hours/week for the 8 weeks and receive a $640 stipend upon program completion (the program runs from March 24 to May 16)!

The High School Bioethics Project is offering two 8-week internships for high school juniors in the New York City metropolitan area this spring. The program runs from March 24–May 16. Interns will devote 4 hours/week for the 8 weeks and receive a $640 stipend upon program completion. Internships will be remote, with opportunities to visit the Division of Medical Ethics in
person. Please note that this is not a lab-based program.
Students from underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply. No experience in bioethics is necessary, but students should have related interests, such as in law, public health, philosophy and humanities, medicine/healthcare, and science and other STEM topics. Visit the Project website to learn more about its mission.

Opportunities:

  • Learn about bioethics through research and writing content for the High School Bioethics website
  • Interact with professionals from the fields of bioethics, public health, healthcare, biotech/pharmaceutical industries, patient advocacy, law, and more
  • Develop potential mentor relationships that will continue beyond the internship

Responsibilities:

  • Students must commit a minimum of 4 hours a week for 8 weeks
  • Read, research, and update HS Bioethics Project Lesson Plans
  • Meet regularly with the internship director to discuss progress and areas of interest
  • Conduct additional research as needed, depending on the student’s interest and availability

To apply:

  • Fill out the application form, including a bio/resume and a statement of interest
  • One letter of recommendation from a current/recent teacher should be emailed to the program director, Lisa Kearns, MS, at [email protected] by the deadline below; we cannot accept letters sent by applicants themselves

Deadlines:

  • The spring 2025 session runs from March 24–May 16. Two students will be selected for the program. Applications must be received by 11:59 pm, EST, on Sunday, Jan. 26. Students will be notified of decisions by Feb. 10.
