The program partners with public and parochial schools to offer academic health science enrichment OST programs to middle and high school students during school days (after-school at SUNY Downstate).

This is your chance to support an enriching STEM program for middle and high school students in New York City. As part of our dynamic team, you'll help facilitate engaging Zoom and in-person classes, manage student safety and participation, and assist with lesson planning and outreach.

 

Classification: Consultant, Hybrid, Monday-Wednesday, 3 hours per day
(4:00PM-7:00PM) Salary: College Work Study or $100 per session
Time Frame: Temporary February 2025- May 2025

Position Highlights:

Role: Part-time Instructor

Audience: Minority high school students

Location: New York City area (residency required)

Schedule: September 2024 - May 2025, Fall 2024 & Spring 2025 semesters

Compensation: $100 per 3-hour class

Requirements: Training in biology, health sciences, or public health

Qualifications:
BA/BS degree with courses work mathematics and science (e.g., chemistry), health sciences and/or education of high school-aged children (e.g., after-school curriculum, STEM pre-college programs, youth development, public health), and some teaching experience.
● Knowledge of Health Disparities and Anatomy & Physiology. Knowledge of a broad range of
undergraduate prerequisites in the basic sciences is a plus.
● Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.
● Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
● Ability to analyze problems and coordinate effectively with Health Science Academy staff. Ability to organize resources, establish priorities, and make procedural decisions and judgments in the classroom.
● Experience teaching a health science curriculum for youth is a plus.
● Experience working with high school-aged youth is a plus.
● Experience with remote teaching is a plus.
● Ability to work with racially diverse populations.
